OUTSIDER AWARDS - WINNERS

On the occasion of our 10th anniversary, Outsider magazine presented its first architectural award.
The award highlights projects that, in our view, make a significant contribution to contemporary architecture. After several meetings with the professional jury, we established five categories:

Open Cities, Local Interventions, Heritage and Renovation, Housing Solutions, and Architecture. An additional category was an essay on the theme “Being an Outsider.”

Honorary jury members: Juhani Pallasmaa, Takaharu Tezuka, Yui Tezuka
Jury: Dr. Živa Deu, Aleš Gabrijelčič, Gregor Turnšek, Alenka Korenjak, Luka Jerman, Tadej Zupančič, Nina Granda, Matevž Granda

The public call, published in December 2024, received 156 project submissions and 24 essays. The requirement was that the projects had to be built in Europe after 2015. The jury selected three projects in each category, and the honorary jury members chose two grand prize winners:

Juhani Pallasmaa selected Urban Tertiary Forest (Fieldwork, Andrej Bernik) – a poetic transformation of a degraded urban area into a vibrant green structure.

Yui and Takaharu Tezuka awarded Kunstsilo (Bax studio, Boris Bežan; Mestres Wåge; Mendoza Partida) – an impressive renovation of an industrial silo into a cultural center.
