3: POGLAVJE, V KATEREM MARIELA ŽAŠLER, NE DA BI VEDELA, SPOZNA NOVO RAZOČARANJE V SVOJEM ŽIVLJENJU

Po dobrem tednu dela na Božičnem pudingu, v katerem se večino časa ukvarja z iskanjem impresionistično roza okvirjev za ogledala, ki jih je za novo kliniko prispevala prejšnja garnitura pripravnikov (“Na koncu preizkusnega obdobja se je izkazalo, da nihče od njih ni pravega profila za Vitruvius!”), Mariele Žašler navdih, zaradi katerega bi zares vzljubila svojo novo službo, še ni obiskal. Če je pričakovala, da bo pripravništvo zanjo izziv, se je zmotila, saj razen pregledovanja katalogov in pastelne barvne lestvice Paleo nima pomembnih zadolžitev.

Prizemljeno gledano z delom v Vitruviusu sicer ni nič narobe:

– v desetih dneh še nihče od Hagenbohmov ni na novo umrl,

– Vitruvius je slikovito glamurozen,

– vodja biroja aka. prvi med enakimi Daniel Hagenbohm je patriarhalno impozanten – ukazuje na način, ki ti vliva neomajno zaupanje v avtoriteto,

– njegova žena, kemičarka Klementina ni Hagenbohmova in je tako dejansko simpatična,

– njegov oče Ludvik-Daniel je zloben in tako za starca nepričakovano zanimiv,

– brainstorming sestanke zmeraj spremlja penina Jean-Rémy, ki je dovoljena celo pripravnikom,

– Peter Bram že prvi teden spi z Almo Gris Hagenbohm, zato so delovniki z Jakobom Grisom polni suspenza,

– stoli so iz pravega usnja,

– pisarniškega materiala nikoli ne zmanjka,

– čistilke niso debele,

– in prav gotovo je jasno, da so pripravniki, ki so bili izbrani za neplačano delovno razmerje v biroju Vitruvius, nekaj posebnega.

Ne glede na vse te prednosti pa Mariela Žašler čuti, da njenemu novemu okolju manjka določeni je-ne-sais-quoi, ki ga lahko prinese samo prisotnost potencialnih intimnih partnerjev. Če je Mariela Žašler namreč pričakovala, da bo novo okolje z novimi ljudmi pomenilo tudi nove, zanimive moške (z denarjem), se je zmotila:

  1. Sopripravnika sta se izkazala za razočaranje. Peter Bram je sicer lep, a socialno neprilagojen na način, ki je ponavadi indikator revščine v zgodnjem otroštvu. Robin Grad je tako prijazen, da ga lahko tudi ne bi bilo. Vedno se javi za najbolj ponižujoče naloge, zaradi česar zbuja mešanico zaničevanja in pomilovanja. O njem Mariela še ničesar ne ve, lahko pa sluti: da očitno ni preveč inteligenten, da je brez omembe vredne družinske zgodovine in da je brez dobrih idej. Kako se je sploh znašel v Vitruviusu?
  2. Starejši Hagenbohmi so zasedeni, prestari in preumrljivi.
  3. Skrivnostni Roudavski, ki ga (tega še ne vemo) na skrivaj ljubi Lili Sanela, dela na načrtih za novi Guggenheim v Benbrooku, Texas, in Jesenskemu salonu še ni prišel blizu.

Stvari za Marielo Žašler na tej točki v življenju tako niso ne zares dobre ne slabe, ampak sive. Če za delo v Vitruviusu ne bi pričakovala dolgoročnih profesionalnih koristi v obliki precenjenih referenc, bi bila najbrž bridko razočarana, tako pa ji je samo vsak dan dolgčas.

V resnici še največjo praktično neprijetnost predstavlja Lili Sanela. Za potencialno prijateljico ima Lili Sanela številne nezaželene lastnosti: poleg tega, da je rojena v klan uspešnežev, tudi nenehno govori, in, kar je najhuje: nenehno prekipeva od mučno ekshibicionističnih čustev. Mariela Žašler, dekle, ki še nikoli v življenju ni oblekla ničesar, kar ni sivo, je sama namreč čustveno mrtva (kot so že petnajst let fizično mrtvi njeni starši). Edina stvar, po kateri sta si z Lili Sanelo podobni, je to, da kot punci v dvajsetih v nobeni lastnosti ne moreta biti konzistentni. Ko Mariela pomisli na Lili Sanelo, lahko samo patetično zavzdihne.

Tretji ponedeljek popoldne po svojem prihodu v Vitruvius Mariela Žašler z Jean-Rémyjem na mizi sedi v Jesenskem salonu. Svoj CocoBlue (službeni) je poimenovala Hahahadid, ker je prejšnji uporabnik na namizju pustil fotografijo prastarega muzeja Zahe Hadid Riverside. To se zdi Marieli Žašler tako konkreten kliše, da že meji na amaterizem. Ostali pripravniki so nekam izginili. Mariela pregleduje dobavitelje impresionistično roza notranje opreme. Vse v Božičnem pudingu bo impresionistično roza – “ker je impresionistično roza samo izboljšana barvna verzija vsega, kar se nahaja znotraj nas.”

“Mariela?” V Jesenski salon vstopi moški, ki ga do sedaj ni videla. Moški ima dobre lase. Star je petintrideset in si je všeč. To je Roudavski. Mariela začuti, da so se stvari obrnile na bolje.
